David Young

David Young has been painting since about 1990, just before he retired. He is a native of Birmingham, now living in Usk, and was formerly a lecturer in English at Cardiff University.

He explains, "I have attended several amateur art courses, including print-making. Unfortunately the printmaking, especially screen printing which I enjoyed most, depends on equipment which I no longer have." He uses various media; occasionally oil, mostly watercolour, acrylic, ink, pencil and charcoal.

He has been a member of the Wye Valley Art Society for decades and usually exhibited in their seasonal exhibitions. Unfortunately the Society is inactive during the Covid-99 lockdown and when they closed down, he joined the Abergavenny Art Group.

"I have also exhibited in the Brockweir village shop. As for subject matter, I mostly paint landscapes, but fairly frequently I vary my interest to include still life, portrait, floral subjects and abstracts. My landscapes are mostly of Welsh subjects, especially of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire." .
